Afternoons Out TOGETHER

The Social Services Department held its first “Afternoons Out TOGETHER!” Interactive Sunday for Family Caregivers and their Loved Ones. Members of “Afternoons Out: Adult Day Program for People with Memory Loss,” along with their spouses, children, grandchildren, and home attendants participated in interactive activities, stress management for caregivers, and simple
chair/partner yoga sessions. They feasted on a fabulous catered lunch which was accompanied by delightful musical entertainment and followed by a fun sing-a-long. Throughout the day, under the sponsorship of the StoryCorps Memory Loss Initiative, families interviewed their loved ones in a professional sound studio set up in one of our offices, and took home CDs with their recorded oral history dialogues. Caregivers were not only reassured that their loved one is well cared for when they attend our program, but also experienced a fun-filled day in what otherwise is often extremely challenging and difficult. The whole day was highly emotional and so greatly appreciated.
