The Social Services Department is here to lend a hand, provide a sympathetic ear and understanding heart. We serve community members of all ages and stages with individual short-term counseling, information, and referrals. In addition to providing a doorway to services, we coordinate a range of public wellness and mental health programs to benefit the overall well-being of the community such as Diabetes Awareness Day, A-Time Seminars on Infertility, parenting seminars, and Afternoons Out: Adult Day Services for people with Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Loss. Whether you are a new parent, a recent widow, a struggling teenager, or overwhelmed by circumstances and don’t know where to turn… our compassionate staff is here for you.

Alzheimers & Dementia Workshop – Managing Challenging Behaviors & Moods
with Amanda Leis, LCSW, Dementia Care Consultant

Wednesday, March 12 • 7:00-8:30 PM (sharp)

People with memory loss present unique behavior and mood challenges to caregivers. Anger, irritability, suspicion, false ideas, over-reacting, depression, combativeness, stubbornness, repetitious actions, apathy, wandering, sleep disturbances, “sundowning” – one of these, or other symptoms, may be displayed by your loved one. Despite best efforts, caregivers often become exhausted and run out of ideas for how to cope. Bring questions about your own situation, and hear tips and practical advice from an expert about ways to cope and make caring easier.

For more information, contact Linda Eber at 718-954-3154, or the SCC Front Desk at 718-627-4300.

This program is made possible in part through the support of UJA-Federation of NY/Project HOPE and the Altoon Tunie Sutton Endowment Fund.
