Thursday, April 19: SPECIAL YOM HASHOAH PROGRAM: CANDLE-LIGHTING, FILM, and SPEAKER. See the film, DEFIANCE (2 hrs), an account of the Bielski partisans, a group led by three Jewish brothers who saved and recruited Jews in Poland (now Belarus) during WWII. After the film, hear guest speaker, TZVI BIELSKI, one of the partisan’s sons. The program will also include a commemorative candle-lighting ceremony. Please call if you would like to participate in the ceremony.

Thursday, April 26: YOM HA’ATZMAUT CELEBRATION! Celebrate Israel’s 64th Independence Day with live musical entertainment by Avram Gabay. Enjoy a lunch in the Israeli tradition, including falafel, Israeli salad, hummus and tehina. Program from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM.

Thursday, April 26: Educational Seminar for Caregivers – GETTING GOOD CARE: KNOWING WHEN & HOW TO GET IT, presentation and discussion with Amy Trommer. Topics include: When do you need more help (even if your family member doesn’t want it)? What constitutes good care and how do you find it? Tips for building strong relationships with aides and agencies.
No charge. 1:00-2:30 PM.

Tuesday, May 1: Seminar: SIMPLY MONEY, presentation with Galia Gichon, independent financial expert and founder of Down-to-Earth Finance who provides unbiased financial education dedicated to women. Topics include: understanding investments (mutual funds, stocks, bonds, ETFs), reading statements, how to gauge investment performance, and getting the most from your financial advisor. Coffee/tea and dessert served.

Monday, May 14: STUFF: WHAT TO DO WITH IT! Do you have old photos, family linens, silver, clothes, letters, and other memorabilia hidden in boxes in over-stuffed closets, cluttered rooms or basements? Do you wonder what will happen to all your things if your family doesn’t want them? Come to this hands-on, interactive workshop led by Susan Kranberg of Simple Solutions. Learn how to get your memories out of the box and into an organized system. Mothers and daughters (or friends) can come together, or come on our own! Bring several photos or other items that you are trying to decide what to do with.

Thursday, May 17: Educational Seminar – KNOW YOUR OPTIONS: ACCESSING SERVICES AND PRESERVING ASSETS. Who is eligible for Medicaid, and who isn’t? Learn some options for obtaining community-based services such as home health aides, insurance coverage and more. Also discover what can safely be done to protect assets should the need for Nursing Home Medicaid arise in the future. Caregivers and family members who participate with or are responsible for their parents’ medical and fiscal health are urged to take advantage of this seminar. Presentation and discussion with Steve Salomon, of SeniorCare, New York Medicaid consultants.

Tuesday, June 5: LECTURE: COMMON ISSUES OF AGING EYES. Dr. Kara Pasner- Cohen will present an overview of common eye conditions and address what is normal and not as we age. There will be time for questions & answers. 12:30 – 1:30 PM

Thursday, June 14 Educational Seminar- THE ‘40-70’ RULE: A GUIDE TO CONVERSATION STARTERS FOR BOOMERS AND THEIR SENIOR LOVED ONES. It often takes years, if ever, for older adults and their adult children to start the difficult conversations necessary for long-range planning that help avoid last minute crises for aging adults. Ideally, these discussions should be started when the parent is around 70 and their children are in their 40s. Come hear tips from Marcia Johnson, Director of Home Instead Senior Care that can be used for conversation starters between older adults and their adult children. With over 900 offices nationwide, Home Instead Senior Care is a non-medical provider of services to seniors aging in the comfort of their own homes.
