Alex Koi

Vocals, piano, musical theater, & songwriting

Alex is a vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in Brooklyn. She is a versatile performer of rock, pop, Jazz, musical theater and classical music, and holds a Jazz Voice BMA from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theater, and Dance. She has collaborated with musicians, visual artists, directors and dancers in New York City and has toured across North America at venues such as the Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Jazz Festival, Joe’s Pub, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and more. She performed the combined role of Tracy Dunn/Jillian Gilchrist in the National Tour of opera Parable of Sower by Toshi Reagon.

She encourages her students to love learning and prize self-expression. She is passionate about music education for all, no matter age or ability, and believes in its power to transform lives. In addition to teaching voice and piano, she enjoys working with her students on songwriting, music production and recording, and improvisation.
