Goals and Aims
Our aim for the Nursery program at the SCC is to foster growth in the child’s four major areas of development: physical, intellectual, social and emotional. We stress a “whole-child” approach where the focus is on the process of learning rather than the product. Within their daily schedules, teachers plan activities that build feelings of self-worth and independence in each child by providing many opportunities for success.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is developmental and based on a whole child approach. It consists of a flexible, yet structured environment. Hebrew and English reading readiness skills are reinforced as well as units in math, science, social studies, and computer skills. Our specialties include:
Swim (for toilet trained children only)
Gym
Music
Outdoor Play
Holiday Celebrations
Licensing and Regulations
The SCC Nursery program is licensed by the NYC Department of Health And Mental Hygiene and is subject to periodic inspections by its personnel. Requirements pertaining to staff credential, group-size, child-teacher ratio, medical forms and fire and emergency procedures are strictly followed.
Staff
Teachers are licensed and state certified with a bachelor or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. All teaching personnel are mature and experienced and are screened and fingerprinted as per Department of Health and Mental Hygiene licensing requirements.
Parental Involvement
Parents are invited to participate in their children’s nursery experience, and are encouraged to take advantage of our Open Door policy. Our staff keeps parents connected through classroom newsletters, birthdays, holiday workshops, and special events.
